About Me
Hi! I’m Ayana. My whole life, I’ve had a passion and natural inclination towards writing and reading. It wasn’t until I started in Carlmont’s journalism program that I realized my talent and interest had a real-life purpose. I instantly clicked with the process of creating content for our digital publication. I wrote several articles during my time at Scot Scoop, including general news and campus beats as well as full-length features, opinion pieces, and multimedia feature packages. Currently, I am an editor for the publication, where I review and publish multiple articles covering various topics weekly. In addition to writing and editing, I enjoy developing my budding photography skills by taking photos for the San Mateo Daily Journal. Outside of the journalism classroom, you can find me dancing at my ballet studio Better Together Dance Theatre, coaching recreational gymnastics, and spending time outside hiking or skiing.

Editor
Scot Scoop News
As a current editor for Scot Scoop, I review 2-3 articles a week and edit for clarity, AP Style, grammar, and overall structure and flow. I edit for news, campus, and entertainment beats, and provide personalized feedback for my writers. Editing has helped me gain invaluable communicative skills and a sense for detail orientation that I hope to develop even more during my time as an editor.

Photography Intern
San Mateo Daily Journal
One aspect of journalism I have always wanted to improve upon and become well-versed in is photography. As a photography intern for the San Mateo Daily Journal, I have the opportunity to practice my photo-taking skills and play around with composition, lighting, and camera settings. For the Daily, I typically take on specified assignments for stock photos for the publication to keep in their media libraries.
